Coach Gavin Hunt Downplays SuperSport’s 4-1 Triumph Over Chiefs: “It was just three points”

SuperSport United secured a resounding 4-1 victory over Chiefs at FNB Stadium, completing a league double over the Glamour Boys this season. Despite the impressive score line, coach Gavin Hunt remained grounded, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the bigger picture.  

Hunt’s Perspective on The Swanky Boys:

“It’s just three points,” Hunt stated. “We didn’t win a cup or anything tonight. SuperSport United is still in a difficult position in the league”. We haven’t performed well in the league, but it’s not due to a lack of effort or commitment. The attitude has been good, and sometimes in football, you don’t get the results you deserve.”

Hunt pointed to their previous encounters with Chiefs, highlighting the unpredictable nature of football. He mentioned the Swanky Boys earlier cup loss where they felt they should have won, and a league win where they perhaps were fortunate. He stressed the team need to continue working hard, take their chances, and find consistency. He explained the team’s constant changes due to various issues, but noted the team has been more settled in recent matches.

Despite the dominant win, The Swanky Boys remain 12th on the table with 20 points from 18 games. While the league title may be out of reach, they can still aim for a higher finish. They are also in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final against defending champions Orlando Pirates. The win against Kaizer Chiefs could provide a significant morale boost for the team.
