The Springboks have selected a full-strength team for their opening Nations Championship match against England at Ellis Park on Saturday, 4 July (5.40pm kick-off).
The selection highlights South Africa’s intent to make a strong start against an improving England side.

Adding to the occasion, backs Cheslin Kolbe and Damian Willemse will both earn their 50th Springbok caps. Meanwhile, lock Eben Etzebeth will extend his South African record to 142 Test appearances.
Springboks pack loaded with experience
Independent rugby journalist Jan de Koning believes the Springboks have shown England plenty of respect with their team selection.
“It’s got a lot of experience, one or two injuries and players that are still going to come back into the mix,” he said.
The Springbok pack features a formidable front row of Ox Nche, Malcolm Marx and Thomas du Toit. Behind them, Ruan Nortje joins Etzebeth in the second row.

Captain Siya Kolisi leads the loose trio alongside Pieter-Steph du Toit and Jasper Wiese. Grant Williams and Manie Libbok will direct play at scrumhalf and flyhalf.
In the backline, Kurt-Lee Arendse starts on the wing. Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel combine in midfield, while Kolbe occupies the opposite wing. Willemse completes the starting XV at fullback.
England present a serious challenge for the Springboks
Although England’s recent results have been mixed, De Koning believes they remain a dangerous opponent.
“You can look at the Six Nations form where they finished second last, and they had a really hard Six Nations schedule. Then you can look at the game against France where they came within moments of beating France. I think the reality is that this England team is very good.”

He expects England to test the Springboks throughout the contest despite their inconsistent form.
Key England players to watch
De Koning identified several England players who could trouble the Springboks.
Flyhalf Fin Smith continues to impress and has quickly established himself as one of England’s brightest talents.
“He’s a really good flyhalf,” De Koning said.
He also highlighted scrumhalf Jack van Poortvliet as England’s best option when fit.
“Only 24 caps, but he’s definitely their best scrumhalf when he’s fit.”
At the back, George Furbank could also play a key role.
“George Furbank at fullback and the high ball; he is definitely going to challenge us,” De Koning added.
With both teams boasting quality across the park, Saturday’s encounter promises to be a fierce contest at Ellis Park.
