Bafana Bafana Reach the Knockout Stages
Bafana Bafana secured a historic 1-0 victory over South Korea on Wednesday to reach the FIFA World Cup knockout rounds for the first time.
The achievement marks a remarkable turnaround for South Africa after a disappointing start to the tournament. South Africa returned to the World Cup stage for the first time since hosting the competition in 2010.
Many observers wrote off Bafana Bafana after their opening 2-0 defeat to Group A winners Mexico. However, the team responded with determination. They earned a hard-fought draw against the Czech Republic before facing South Korea in a decisive battle for second place.

Maseko wasted a promising opening early in the period, while South Korea striker Oh Hyeon-gyu forced a save from Ronwen Williams.
As news emerged that Mexico were leading the Czech Republic in the other Group A match, the intensity increased. Both teams knew a place in the knockout rounds was within reach.
South Africa finally seized their opportunity in the 63rd minute. Tshepang Moremi delivered an excellent cross into the box, and Maseko remained composed. This time, he made no mistake and fired the ball inside the near post.
The goal sparked celebrations among the South African supporters and gave the South African Team a crucial advantage.
Historic Victory Secures Canada Clash
South Korea pushed forward in the closing stages. However, South Africa defended resolutely and protected their lead until the final whistle.
The result secured a historic place in the knockout rounds for Bafana Bafana. South Africa will now face co-hosts Canada in Los Angeles on June 28.
Meanwhile, Mexico finished top of Group A with a perfect nine points after winning all three of their matches.
