Liverpool’s rough run keeps getting worse. They were beaten 3–2 by Brentford, making it four league defeats in a row.

Brentford were sharper, stronger, and simply wanted it more. Dango Ouattara and Kevin Schade scored in the first half, and even though Milos Kerkez pulled one back before the break, Igor Thiago’s penalty sealed it. Mohamed Salah’s late volley gave Liverpool hope, but it was too little, too late.

It was another worrying day for Arne Slot. His team haven’t kept a clean sheet since mid-September and look miles off the pace. They’re sixth in the table, with Sunderland and Manchester United both above them, and four points behind leaders Arsenal.

A nightmare start for The Reds

It took just five minutes for Liverpool to collapse again. Michael Kayode launched a long throw, Kristoffer Ajer flicked it on, and Ouattara reacted quickest to score.

Liverpool tried to respond. Florian Wirtz came close with a half-volley that skimmed wide, but that was about it.

The Bees were better in every area. Jordan Henderson nearly scored against his old team, and Ouattara caused chaos with his pace. Giorgi Marmardashvili had to tip over a fierce strike from Mikkel Damsgaard just to keep Liverpool in it.

Then came the killer. Liverpool thought they should’ve had a penalty when Cody Gakpo went down, but seconds later, Brentford punished them. Hugo Ekitike lost the ball, Damsgaard slipped Schade through, and the winger made it 2–0.

Kerkez pulled one back deep into stoppage time – in what should’ve been three added minutes but somehow became five. Brentford fans weren’t happy.

Brentford stay cool

Referee Simon Hooper didn’t return after the break, and fourth official Tim Robinson took over. Soon after, VAR gave Brentford a penalty when Virgil van Dijk fouled Ouattara. Thiago stepped up and calmly rolled it down the middle.

Arne Slot made changes, bringing on Mac Allister, Robertson, and Chiesa, but it didn’t help much. Brentford still looked more dangerous. Ouattara missed a free header that could’ve killed the game.

Salah pulled one back with a lovely volley that clipped the bar and went in. But The Bees held firm. Their fans roared the team home, and the final whistle brought huge celebrations.

Arne Slot: “I didn’t expect four in a row”

After the match, Arne Slot looked frustrated.

“Teams know how to play against us,” he said. “We go behind early, and that doesn’t help. We still score goals, but we concede far too many.

It’s not just the defenders — it’s the whole team. We’ve made a lot of changes since the summer, but I didn’t expect four losses in a row.”

Keith Andrews: “No step back”

Brentford boss Keith Andrews was delighted.

“The message at half-time was clear — we don’t step back,” he said. “If you let Liverpool build confidence, they’ll punish you. We stayed aggressive, and that was the key.

Beating the Premier League champions means a lot. It’s a huge result for the club.”

Henderson: “We deserved it”

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson summed it up perfectly:

“From start to finish, we stuck together,” he told TNT Sports. “Liverpool are a world-class side, but we stayed composed and played our game.

Damsgaard’s pass to Schade was brilliant. Thiago was a threat all night. We deserved the win.”

Liverpool now face some serious questions. Liverpool are still scoring goals, but they’ve lost control. For a team that spent nearly half a billion in the summer, that’s not good enough.

Next up — a chance to stop the slide. But right now, this looks like a team still searching for itself.
