Manchester United Sack Ruben Amorim After 14 Months

Manchester United have dismissed manager Ruben Amorim and will appoint a caretaker for the rest of the season.
Former midfielder Darren Fletcher will lead the team for Wednesday’s Premier League match against Burnley.
He will stay in charge until the club appoints a caretaker manager.
United plan to name a permanent replacement in the summer.
Breakdown in Relations Behind Exit

Tensions escalated on Friday during a hostile meeting between Amorim and director of football Jason Wilcox.
Amorim reacted angrily to criticism of his tactics following a 1-1 draw with Wolves.
He later suggested his relationship with senior club figures had deteriorated.
Amorim also warned he might not receive full backing in the transfer market.
After Sunday’s draw with Leeds, Amorim criticised the club’s hierarchy again.
He said he wanted to work as a manager, “not the coach,” and referenced his contract ending in 18 months.
Less than 24 hours later, Manchester United announced his departure after 14 months in charge.
Club Statement and Interim Plans

Manchester United said the team’s sixth-place position forced the leadership to act.
The club believes the change improves their chances of a higher league finish.
United thanked Amorim for his work and wished him well.
The club also confirmed the exit of his entire coaching staff.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had previously urged patience.
However, club sources say performances showed little progress this season.
Manchester United appointed Amorim in November 2024 after paying Sporting €11m to trigger his release clause.
He won 25 of his 63 matches, marking the shortest permanent reign since David Moyes.
Fletcher, now 41, currently coaches United’s under-18s and previously served as technical director.
He won five Premier League titles and the Champions League during his playing career.
Fletcher will address the media on Tuesday before the Burnley match.
