Springboks head coach Rassie Erasmus has made a late adjustment to his matchday squad for Saturday’s Rugby Championship clash against the Wallabies in Johannesburg. Boan Venter has been added to the replacements bench, stepping in for the injured Jan-Hendrik Wessels.
Venter, who plays for Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship, will provide crucial front-row cover at Emirates Airline Park. The 28-year-old joins fellow forwards Bongi Mbonambi, Asenathi Ntlabakanye, Franco Mostert, and Kwagga Smith on the bench. The backline reserves remain unchanged with Cobus Reinach, Canan Moodie, and Damian Willemse included.
Rassie Erasmus hinted at adding Snyman if Australia chose a 6/2 split, but only Venter was added.
Second Springboks Cap for Venter
Saturday’s match could mark only the second Test appearance for Venter, who made a try-scoring debut during South Africa’s 55-10 win over Georgia in Nelspruit last month.
Cheetahs product Venter joined Edinburgh in 2021 and was set to qualify for Scotland via residency in 2026. His surprise selection in Erasmus’ squad showed South Africa’s intent to keep him in their plans.
