Relief for Super Giants after tense SA20 win over Sunrisers
Durban’s Super Giants claimed a crucial victory on Sunday, edging Sunrisers Eastern Cape in a thrilling SA20 match in Gqeberha.
Despite the loss, the Sunrisers stayed top of the table, while Sunday’s Winners climbed from last to fifth place. It was only their second win in eight matches.

Super Giants hold nerve in tight chase
Chasing 159, the Super Giants made a confident start, reaching 81/3 in the ninth over. Opener Marques Ackerman led the charge with 45 off 26 balls.
The momentum shifted as Sunrisers bowlers tightened their lines and stalled the middle order. Marco Jansen impressed late, conceding just three runs in the 18th over.
Needing 12 runs from the final nine balls, tail-ender Gerald Coetzee struck a vital six to ease the pressure. He fell soon after, but Evan Jones and Kwena Maphaka stayed calm.
Jones sealed the win with a boundary, guiding the Super Giants to 162/8 with three balls remaining. Senuran Muthusamy took 2/20, while Anrich Nortje claimed 2/34.

Sunrisers recover late but fall short
Earlier, the Sunrisers chose to bat but stumbled early, slipping to 38/2 in the powerplay. The teams bowlers applied consistent pressure throughout the innings.
Tristan Stubbs scored 47 off 30 balls, with Lewis Gregory adding 25 off 17. The pair smashed 53 runs in the final three overs to lift the total to 158/5.
All five Super Giants bowlers took a wicket, sharing the workload in a disciplined display.
“We’re in must-win territory now,” said captain Aiden Markram. “It was tight, but the points matter.”
They will face Paarl Royals next on Tuesday, while the Sunrisers meet Joburg Super Kings on Wednesday.
