Marizanne Kapp delivered a brilliant all-round performance to lead South Africa to a huge 150-run win over Pakistan. The ICC Women’s World Cup match was played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday night. The game was affected by rain, but the Proteas still came out on top via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
So far, this was South Africa’s fifth win in six games. They now sit at the top of the group with 10 points. Meanwhile, Australia and England are one point behind, with a game in hand. It’s been a strong comeback from the Proteas after a poor start. Initially, they lost their opening game to England, bowled out for just 69 and beaten by 10 wickets. Since then, they’ve beaten New Zealand, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and now Pakistan.

Strong Batting from South Africa, Sets Up Big Total
To begin with, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. That decision quickly backfired. After losing opener Tazmin Brits early for a duck, South Africa’s batters took control. As a result, Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus built a solid 118-run partnership for the second wicket.
Wolvaardt hit 90 from 82 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes. Luus added 61 from 59 deliveries. After their dismissals, Marizanne Kapp and Nadine de Klerk took over. Kapp scored a powerful 68* off 43 balls. De Klerk smashed 41 from just 16, hitting four sixes and three fours.
Their late hitting helped South Africa post a massive 312-9 in 40 overs. The game had been reduced from 50 to 40 overs per side due to rain.

Rain Delays and a One-Sided Finish
Pakistan’s chase never really got going. They were set a DLS-adjusted target of 306. After 10 overs, they were struggling at 35-4. Rain delays made things worse, stopping and restarting the match several times. The target kept changing — first to 299 in 37 overs, then to 270 in 27, and finally to 262 in 25.
Ultimately, the final target created by South Africa was 234 from just 20 overs. Pakistan finished on 83-7, far short of what was needed.
Kapp starred with the ball too, taking 3-20 in five overs. Nondumiso Shangase picked up 2-19, and Ayabonga Khaka took 1-14.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt praised the team’s efforts: “Scoring 312 in 40 overs is fantastic. Kappie was amazing, and Nadine was brilliant at the end. It’s great to see different players contributing.”
Looking ahead, with one game left, the Proteas are in a strong position. They’re playing confident, winning cricket — and now lead the group.
